Dear Music Listening Contest Regional Winners,
Congratulations on your recent first or second place finish at the Regional Contests of the 20th Annual Minnesota High School Music Listening Contest! Your win qualifies your team to participate in the State Contest to be held at Augsburg College in Minneapolis on Friday, February 1, 2008. This letter will give you more information about the State Contest, where your team will be competing with all first and second place winners from the Ten Regions (twenty teams in all.)
Time: Event:
11:30a.m.-12:00noon 1. Pick Up Parking
Permit in Atrium of Foss Center (Building 7)
2. Registration and Luncheon is on the 2nd floor of the Christensen
Student Center (Building 5) across the street from the Foss building.
12:00noon.-12:50p.m. Luncheon and Guest
Speaker Jere Lantz at Christensen Center
12:50p.m.-1:00p.m. Move from Christensen Center to Foss Chapel
1:00p.m. - 3:30p.m. State Contest begins at Foss Chapel
3:30 p.m. - 4:00p.m. College Bowl Round and Awards Ceremony, Foss Chapel
(NOTE: These are the approximate times of events.)
State Finals Emcee will again be Steve Staruch, MPR on air personality.
State Finals Judges will be K. Christian McGuire, MLC Musicologist;
Mindy Ratner, MPR on air personality; Dr. Matt Bribitzer-Stull, U of
M Music Department and MLC board member; and Ann Slosser, MLC board
member as piano teacher liason.
The format for the State Contest will be the same as that for the Regional Contest, only with different questions. One notable difference - Round 5 will have twenty (20) questions and BOTH Composer and Era must be correct to earn a point. The top two teams that emerge from the first five rounds will then participate in an exciting College-Bowl round to determine the final winner of the State Contest. A copy of the rules and regulations of the College-Bowl round will be sent to you before the contest.
