January 20, 2008

The top two teams that emerge from the first five rounds of the state competition will then participate in an exciting College-Bowl round to determine the final winner of the State Contest. A copy of the rules and regulations of the College-Bowl round will be sent to you before the contest.

The College Bowl consists of two rounds, both of which will feature a mixture of questions on study guide material and listening samples that may or may not be from the study guide CDs.

Scoring

Here is how both rounds will be scored.

A correct answer is worth ten (10) points.

Incorrect answers, or buzzing in and failing to answer, will result in a deduction of five (5) points.

In the event of a tie at the end of round two, a sudden-death tie breaker question will be read or a listening sample will be played. Each team member will write his/her answer without conferring with other team members. The team with the most correct answers will win. Please take a few moments to test your buzzers.

Round One - is an open buzzer team competition. There are twelve (12) questions. For each question, the first team to hit the buzzer will have the opportunity to answer within ten seconds. If you hit the buzzer before or during a question, the emcee will stop the question and/or music and ask for an answer within ten seconds. If a question is answered correctly, that team will receive ten points, and the next question will be read. If a question is answered incorrectly, or if a team buzzes in and cannot answer within ten seconds, the other team has the opportunity to buzz in and answer within ten seconds after hearing the complete question and/or music.

Round Two is an open buzzer individual competition that features five categories, each with three questions. The school with the lowest score at the end of round 1 will choose the first category. After the first category is chosen, the emcee will read the first question from that category, and whichever team member buzzes in first will have the opportunity to answer within ten (10) seconds WITHOUT CONFERRING WITH YOUR TEAMMATES. If no one on either team buzzes in within ten seconds, the emcee will read the answer, and proceed to the next question in the category. If a team member answers incorrectly, the emcee will read the question again, and an opposing team member may buzz in and answer within ten second WITHOUT CONFERRING. The team member who answers the last question in a category correctly may choose the next category.
